Melton Town Estate has set up a life-size silhouette of a British ‘Tommy’ to represent troops from the town who gave their lives in the conflict.
A poppy has been placed on the striking 6ft-tall silhouette ahead of the annual Royal British Legion poppy appeal in the town.

Senior townwarden, John Southerington, said: “We thought it would be a good tribute to the fallen and it’s been placed in a position where people can see it from the Lady Wilton Bridge on Leicester Road.”
The silhouettes are being displayed throughout the country as part of the ‘There But Not There’ Armistice campaign.
