Giant marrow the star exhibit at produce show

The prize winning produce of Paul Schober won the accolade of heaviest marrow at the third annual plant and produce show at Rempstone .

Paul said his success was down to his ‘secret’ growing ingredient which gave him a two pound advantage over his closest rival.

Brilliant late summer sunshine attracted a record number of people to the event organised by members of the village hall committee and the social committee of All Saints Church.

It was down to visitors to cast their votes in the majority of categories with classes for not just the green fingered but artists, photographers and cooks.

In the longest bean category, the honours went to Brian Crump who had to fend off last minute attacks by slugs intent on eating up his prize entry.

The show raised £500 to be split between the village hall and the church.
