The money, awarded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund, will be used to build a new servery and accessible toilet and also help towards the costs of raising the floor level in the church.

Reverend Canon Beverley Stark, rector of St Mary Magdalene in Waltham believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

She said: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Waltham. It’s fantastic that WREN has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our servery and toilet taking shape over the next few months.

“Hopefully both will be ready to use by the beginning of July and there are plans in progress for a special opening event to allow everyone to come and have a look at the improvements.”

WREN is a not-for- profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by waste and resource management company FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s grant manager for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the refurbishment of the St Mary Magdalene Church to enable it to become a communtiy facility that can be enjoyed by all.

“WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one develop over the next few months.”
