A sterling effort by organisers and participants at Hamilton United’s fun run and family day has helped raise over £1,700 for Cancer Research UK.
The 3.4 mile fun run starting at Hamilton Tennis Club, on Sunday, saw around 100 people take part in memory of former player Chris Knight, who died of cancer.
The race took competitors on a route around Melton Airfield. The winner was Duncan Greene, who completed the course in a time of 22mins and 30secs.
Mr Knight’s family attended and his mother presented medals to the winners.
Other attractions on the day included a barbecue, bouncy castle, live music, side stalls, raffle and face painting.
Patrick Wainwright, Hamilton United manager said: “We were blessed with good weather which contributed to a great turnout.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to the organisers and helpers as well as the local businesses who kindly donated. The generosity of so many people has surpassed expectation.
“This is only the 2nd fun run we’ve held and due to this years success it should allow us to consolidate making this into an annual event.”
