Caroline Cousins, who grew up in Melton, has died at the age of 55 after a short battle with cancer, her family has confirmed.

Mrs Cousins, whose maiden name was Thorpe. was born in the town and lived her early years in Wymondham, where she attended the village school.

She also studied at the then John Ferneley High School and King Edward VII Upper School in Melton.

Mrs Cousins became an English teacher after studying at Sheffield University, where she met her future husband.

Her only brother Ian, who lives at East Goscote, said: “Caroline was diagnosed with stage four cancer and she died within six weeks which was a terrible shock for everyone.

“I remember she used to go dancing at the old Corn Exchange in Melton when she was younger and she was well known in the area when she was growing up.”

A funeral service was held at Great Missenden Church in Berkshire followed by cremation.

Mrs Cousins leaves her husband and two sons - William (22) and Edward (20).
