Firefighters rescue horse from ditch in Syston

A horse which had become trapped in a ditch in Syston was rescued by firefighters yesterday.

The trapped horse was reported to firefighters at 5.15pm and crews from Eastern and Southern fire stations in Leicester attended the incident at Meadow Lane.

A vet also attended and sedated the horse which was lying in a ditch three feet deep. A fork lift truck was taken to the scene with the aim of lifting the horse out of the ditch but it was not needed.

The horse was lifted using strops and was led back to its field with its owner.
