A cow has been rescued by firefighters after falling into a river in Rearsby this afternoon.
Crews from Melton and Leicester and two technical rescue vehicles were deployed to the scene, on Station Road, at 3.34pm.
A securing line was attached to the animal before the fire service arrived at the incident to help move it out of the water and on to the bank.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Operations took place to assist the cow up the embankment by mechanical means following receipt of consent by the farmer.
“Fire service personnel advised the farmer that the cow would need to be checked by a vet after it was released from the river.”
