The organisation took around £5,000 in pre-orders for Fairtrade items for men women and children.

Particularly popular at the preview sale this year, which was at Gloucester House, off Norman Way, were products such as food hampers, clothes, pottery, jewellery and homeware.

Lynn Marriott, one of the directors at the Fairtrading Post with Dolores Harvey and Helen Chadwick, said: “We had a good turnout at this year’s event which was a great success and enjoyable day for everyone.

People were able to buy presents for Christmas safe in the knowledge that they were helping people from Third World countries get a fair deal.”

Orders for Christmas gifts can be made at the organisation’s shop in Market Place in Melton.

Fairtrade helps lift individuals and communities out of poverty. As well as a fair price, producers are supported with training and their communities get a Fairtrade premium to improve water availability, schools and health.
