Plans to build a 154-feet-high wind turbine to the north of Thorpe Arnold have been recommended for approval, subject to conditions, by Melton Council planning officers.
The turbine is proposed to be installed on land at Crosher’s Farm, off Melton Spinney Road, Thorpe Arnold - about 1.4km to the north east of Melton.
Objectors have raised numerous concerns including the turbine being ‘highly visible’ and setting a precedent for similar applications in the future should it be given the go-ahead. Other concerns raised include the turbine’s ‘adverse impact on the setting of local heritage assets and the wider landscape’ and its impact on the health and quality of life of local residents.
The applicants say the objective of the proposed turbine is to generate renewable energy in line with Government targets, adding that in terms of the layout of the proposed development priority had been given to ‘minimising environmental effects as far as is practicable while maintaining a commercially viable scheme.’
Melton Council’s planning committee is due to decide the full planning application on Thursday (June 4).
