Plans to build a second large-scale solar farm in Wymeswold have been recommended for approval.

EBS Energy want to develop the 2.6MW solar farm, which would include about 10,000 solar panels, on about five hectares of arable land to the east of Wymeswold Lane.

Wymeswold Parish Council, Burton, Prestwold and Cotes Parish Council and the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) are among those who have raised objections including the solar farm’s detrimental impact upon the countryside.

Charnwood Council has also received a letter in support of the scheme, claiming its impact upon the landscape would be ‘negligible’ and that it would create ‘clean energy equivalent to around 900 households’ annual usage’.

The council’s planning committee, which will discuss the proposals next week, is being recommended to approve them, subject to conditions.

Another large scale solar farm, under another firm, is already sited on the Wymeswold Airfield site.
