A brand new mud kitchen was opened on Monday at Melton’s Swallowdale Primary School for children aged four to five.
The construction of the new play area is designed to enable youngsters to get down and dirty with their play, social and communication skills. It was built by school premises officer Paul Lucas and was paid for by funds raised at the school’s summer fair.
Foundation stage teacher Miss Katie Fudge said: “The area is for youngsters to get creative and to socialise. It provides an opportunity for them to broaden their play, improve their behaviour, learn new skills and cover the curriculum in an imaginative way.
“The children enjoyed making mud pies and playing with the pots and pans when it was opened by Mr Lucas on Monday.
“A big thank you must go to parents for donating equipment such as kitchen utensils and a food mixer.”
