Waltham Primary School has received recognition for its first class policy on tackling bullying.
The school was recently visited by the Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team and given a Beyond Bullying Award.
Headteahcer Julie Hopkins said: “The children wanted to improve playtimes so that they were happy for everyone and they wanted some new school rules that were fair and consistent.
“A steering group was formed, made up of staff, children, parents and governors who worked together on updating our policies. The children then chose new playground equipment and organised rotas and helpers.
“They collated the views of the other pupils to find out what rules should be in place and made up a school rule song to help everyone remember.”
Representative Sue Bosley of the Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team was so impressed during the evaluation process that she invited the school to speak on Radio Leicester.
Mrs Hopkins added: “I’m very proud of the school for being so committed to ensuring everyone is happy. The steering group of children have been a pleasure to work with and have proactively taken responsibility for leading on new initiatives. Thanks to everyone involved.”
