Rutland County College pupil Eleanor Wills (18), of Melton, described her three A*s in maths, chemistry and philosophy and ethics as ‘pretty amazing’.

She said: “I didn’t even realise it was possible to get such good grades. This is kind of another world but it’s amazing.

“Everyone is really happy for me and when I told my mum, she just cried.”

Eleanor will be studying earth and environmental science at Lancaster University.

She said: “It should be really good. I’m really excited to start at the end of September so for the rest of summer, I’ll be celebrating!”

The college reported a 99 per cent A-level pass rate this year.

Director of sixth form Michala Jackson said: “We’re absolutely delighted with this year’s results which clearly show the sustained improvement that the college continues to make.”
