The newly upgraded outdoor classroom at Grove Primary School has been officially opened by ex-pupil Tom Rigby.
The former Derby County player was a popular visitor to the school with pupils.
The outdoor learning area at The Grove has had a recently completed facelift. Staff member Sophie Gent, who designed the changes, said: “Children and staff are delighted with the new outdoor classroom. It’s made a huge difference to the children’s learning. I feel we are really privileged at The Grove to have the space and resources to be able to provide this wonderful outdoor facility. Thanks to Phil Pugsley and Denmans for all their help.”
Tom commented on the fact how the outdoor learning area had changed so much since his time at the school.
The children are also benefiting from a new trim trail which was also recently installed. This area was partly funded by contributions from ‘Friends of Grove Parents Association’.
The new area was designed by the children in the school council in the summer and was installed in September.
Head teacher Mike Owen commented: “We are very pleased with the recent changes that have taken place. We are constantly trying to improve the learning environment for our children. Outdoor learning is a very important part of the creative opportunities we offer pupils.”
The school is holding open mornings for prospective new starters on November 1, November 9 and 10. Pop in any time from 9.30-11.00. If these days/times aren’t suitable contact the school on 01664 562554.
