Pupils and staff at Sherard Primary School have welcomed a new headteacher this term - 39-year-old Trevor Marsden, who was latterly at Cottesmore Primary School in Rutland.
Mr Marsden, who has taught in Africa and Italy during his career, succeeds Dan Sutton at the school, which is in Grange Drive in Melton.
He said: “What I like about Sherard School is that it is a very inclusive school - for example, we have two units for children with special educational needs.
“It is very much a community school which really made we want to come here to work.”
Originally from the north-east of England, Mr Marsden is married to Laura, who is also a teacher, and the couple have three children aged eight, six and 10 months.
The new headteacher said he would be influenced by what his pupils wanted during his time at Sherard School. He added: “Children’s views are very important and this is a school which gives them a voice.
“We have a junior leadership team, a team of pupils who help us make decisions in school, and that is very important.”
