FORMER Nottinghamshire cricketer and ex-England A star Darren Bicknell took a special assembly at Sherard Primary School to promote the work of the Belvoir Castle Cricket Trust.
The ex-Notts CCC captain is director of the trust - a charity focused on getting young people active and engaged in the countryside.
As part of its work the trust also runs cricket and countryside school days, introducing youngsters to the sport.
Mr Bicknell visited the school on Thursday to talk to pupils about the trust and the work it does.
The school’s PE co-ordinator Julie Hastings said: “We go to the cricket and countryside days in Knipton which are run by the trust. It holds sessions around the county for boys and girls aged six to 11.
“It’s excellent to see top quality sports people, especially in the year of the Olympics, coming into schools to talk to children and encourage them to get involved in sport.”
