A brand new state-of-the-art £2.5 million catering and hospitality centre is hoped to be in use by Brooksby Melton College students from the start of the next academic year.
The Rural Catering Centre, sited on the junction of Wilton Road and Asfordby Road, will provide top quality training facilities for students including a restaurant with a servery and farm shop, a teaching kitchen, commercial kitchen, butchery teaching area and a reception area. There would also be two classrooms on the first floor along with bathroom and changing facilities.
The centre will also open its doors to the public providing a range of catering services such as pre-theatre meals and demonstrations.
The building, funded from a £6.29m tranche of government cash, was completed and handed over on Monday by contractors GF Tomlinson but still needs to furnished.
College principal Chris Ball said: “We’re thrilled our new Rural Catering Centre is now complete. It will transform the facilities for our catering and hospitality students and provide a real asset for the general public.
“We’re treating the build as a phase-by-phase development so it’s impossible to say when the centre will be ready for public use, however, we’re hoping our students can use it from the start of the next academic year.”
