Melton officers have been using social media to warn residents to keep their garages, sheds and allotments secure after a number of recent incidents.

These include a Mountfield petrol lawnmower being stolen from a shed at an allotment off Scalford Road, Melton, between 5pm on September 23 and 3pm on September 28.

Also, as previously reported in the Melton Times, burglars stole off-road motorbikes, belonging to the Melton Learning Hub, after breaking into the Melton Country Park Cafe. The raiders used a crowbar to get through two outside windows. Once inside they used bolt cutters to get through high security chains around the bikes.

Pc Lindsey Booth, of Melton Police, said: “We just want people to be aware and make sure everything is locked up and secure when they leave their sheds, garages and allotments. Shed alarms are also available from the Melton station.”

Anyone with any information about the lawnmower theft should call Pc 4300 Lindsey Booth on 101.
