Specialist police divers have recovered a body believed to be that of missing Durham University student Euan Coulthard, who comes from Bottesford.
At around 9.15am today (Friday) police responded to a call from a member of the public saying they had seen a body in the River Wear.
Police divers began a search of the river, near to Framwellgate Bridge, and the body was recovered.
A post-mortem examination will take place later.
A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “A formal identification is yet to take place but Euan’s family have been informed of the developments.”
Euan (19), who is studying law at St Mary’s College, was last seen leaving Loveshack nightclub in the Walkergate area of Durham late on Wednesday, January 14.
