Bomb disposal experts were called to Melton Police Station last night (Wednesday) to assess what officers believed to be an unexploded device.
The device was taken into the station, in Station Road, at around 4.30pm by a member of the public, leading to an evacuation.
A bomb disposal unit from the Royal Logistic Corps was called. The item was not found to be an unexploded device and officers returned to the station at around 9pm.
A statement released by the force read: “Melton Police Station was temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure while experts assessed an item believed to be an unexploded device.
“The item, which had been found by a member of the public, was handed in at the station at about 4.30pm and bomb disposal experts later attended.
“No wider cordon was in place and no homes were evacuated.”
