Melton man relaunches campaign to prevent car number plate thefts

Have your say

A Melton man has relaunched his campaign to get the Government to make it compulsory for car number plates to be fitted with security screws.

Eric Tindall, who developed the town’s Neighbourhood Watch scheme into the most prolific in the UK, has drawn up an online petition for the cause.

He needs to attract 100,000 signatures for it to be considered for a debate in parliament.

His previous attempt last year fell short.

Mr Tindall wants only tamper-proof plates to be sold over the counter and for them to be applied during MOTs to vehicles which don’t have them. His petition also calls for traders to use only security screws on the plates of their vehicles.

Mr Tindall said: “I have started running with this again now that parliament is back at work and I’m hoping to get as many people to support it as possible by signing the petition.”
