The new county chairman for the National Farmers’ Union in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland aims to work for farmers and believes farming’s future is bright.
Phil Jarvis, who takes up his post at the end of February, is head of farming at Leicestershire’s Allerton Project/research farm. He said: “I’m taking the role at a challenging time for agriculture. Many businesses are finding their margins under severe pressure, particularly dairy and arable farmers, but farmers are pragmatic people. Despite setbacks and gloomy predictions we’re optimists and I believe professional agriculture has an incredibly strong future.”
