A Fairtrade sugar producer from Malawi will share his story during a visit to Melton’s Co-op store on Friday (February 27).
Charles Chavi, who works for a sugar producer in southern Malawi, will be at the Scalford Road store from 6pm-8pm. The event is being organised by the Melton Mowbray Fairtrade Town Group during Fairtrade Fortnight (February 23 to March 8).
Anyone interested in meeting Charles and hearing his story can attend. There will also be a short film, free Fairtrade refreshments and an ethical challenge activity for youngsters. Co-op spokeswoman Karen Ball said: “As an ethical retailer we’re proud to support this event. People will be able to get more of an understanding of how buying Fairtrade products can benefit producers and their families in poorer countries as well as sampling some Fairtrade products themselves.
