Students from Brooksby Melton College are celebrating after they won a presigious livestock competition with animals they selected themselves.
The youngsters, who are studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture, took three of the college’s Pedigree Welsh pigs to Uppingham Fatstock Show and Sale.
A spokesperson for the college said: “On the morning of the show and sale the students arrived early to get the pigs cleaned up and looking ready for action.
“Their hard work paid off and the early morning was all worthwhile when one of the pigs they selected took first prize.”
Agriculture courses at Brooksby College are taught across the its 850-acre estate, which includes the working farm Hall Farm, with land for both arable and livestock farming.
The spokesperson added: “Getting involved in events such as the Uppingham event are invaluable for the students in giving them the opportunity to test their own knowledge in picking out prize-winning stock, and they also allow them to network with other farmers from their local community, and learn from their experience.”
