Melton will be represented in the national finals of the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom competition for the first time.
Members of Melton Business Improvement District (BID) were celebrating this week after hearing they had been chosen from more than 1,000 community gardening initiatives around the UK.
Their green fingers were crossed after being nominated for the national finals by East Midlands in Bloom after winning the Silver-Gilt trophy for best improvement district at those awards last year.
And judges have now decided to put Melton BID through to the national final in their category, where they will be up against London Bridge and Experience Guildford.
Andrew Cooper, chair of Melton BID, said: “The BID’s first entry into the East Midlands in Bloom competition last year has reflected very clearly the commonly held desire of all involved to work and strive together for the good of the town. We are very proud to be nominated to represent the town in the UK finals.”
Representatives of Melton BID will find out in October if they have won the national title when they attend the competition’s awards presentation night.
