The Melton Times will be telling you which ones you can visit this week as all non-essential shops are given the green light to resume trading.

One trader who is very pleased to be open again is Jamie How, who has traditional confectionary shop How Sweet on King Street.

He said: “I only opened at the beginning of December so I’ve only had three good weeks since opening.

“First, we ahd the after-Christmas lull and then the current situation.”

Melton Toymaster, on Nottingham Street, reopened for business a few minutes ago.

The independent town trader says on its website it is ‘excited’ to be open again: “We are a COVID-19 secure workplace, fully risk assessed with measures in place to ensure the highest safety for staff and customers.

“All your loyalty stamps will be transferred to our new Magic Card.”

Melton Sports, on King Street, also reopened at 10am.

Owner Michael Cooke said opening hours on weekdays are 10am-4pm and Saturdays from 9am-4pm with free local home delivery (minimum spend £10) between 4.30pm and 6pm.

The EE and BT shop, in Market Place, reopens to customers on Wednesday.

Gareth Haddon, who works in the shop, said: “Keeping customers and staff safe is the number one priority.

“An enormous amount of time and consideration has gone into how to best ensure the safety of everyone in the shop.

“The new measures include, but are not limited to: screens between customers and retail colleagues, optional face masks and vero-shield visors for staff, limited numbers of staff and customers in store at one time - aided by an SMS booking system, moving to contactless payments, hand sanitiser stations and increased cleaning.”
