Melton bus passengers will be among the first in the country to experience the benefits of new high-spec eco buses being rolled out by Arriva this month.
Arriva says the eco buses ‘will provide premium level comfort and connectivity for customers with E-Leather seating and USB charging points as standard, but will also be the greenest diesel buses in the county, featuring the very latest low-emission engines and stop-start technology.’
Among the first routes to get the new buses will be the 5/5A Leicester to Melton service.
Arriva has used £6 million of investment to transform its Leicestershire fleet and, as well as the new buses, the firm has addressed 32 of its older buses based at its Thurmaston depot to further improve its network.
Simon Mathieson, area managing director for Arriva Midlands East, said: “We are committed to challenging the preconceptions to bus travel and positioning it as a viable alternative to car travel.
“In order to do this we need to ensure our customers are given access to transport that meets their growing expectations in terms of technology and comfort, but that also delivers with regards to environmental standards.”
