Significant progress has already been made in the transformation of the former King Edward VII Sports Centre and upper school site into the new Melton Sports and Leisure Village.
Improvements have been made to the gym area and its changing rooms, with some of the equipment being upgraded and replaced, including new running and cable crossover machines being added, a bigger stretching area provided, a greater range of weights to lift, a new power plate and televisions have been installed.
Enhancements have also been made to the sports club changing areas and the all-weather sports pitch, while new signs have been installed at the approach.
Melton Mowbray FC, Melton Rugby Club and Melton Hockey Club will train and play matches at the leisure centre, where all the playing pitches and open space there are now under the ownership of Melton Borough Council with the day-to-day running of the facilities being managed by Everyone Active.
Councillor Leigh Higgins, chairman of the Melton Leisure Vision Working Group, said: “We have made some immediate improvements to the site in order to improve the environment in which members of the gym and users of the other sports facilities experience.
“This is the first step of what is a really exciting project and we will be keeping members and the community informed of progress each step of the way.”
Membership of the gym is available at £25 per month. Anyone interested can call the centre on (01664) 481188 or go to www.everyoneactive.com/centre/melton-sports-village for further details about this and bookings for the sports hall, all weather pitch, classes and activities for children.
