A new season treat for all garden lovers

The local Open Gardens season begins again in earnest this weekend with a double header for the green fingered.

Tresillian House, at 67 Dalby Road, Melton, opens to the public on Sunday from 11am until 4.30pm, as part of the National Gardens Scheme and prides itself as a quiet oasis.

The three-quarter garden was re-established by its current owner between 2009 and 2012 and features blue cedar trees and tulip tree as well as a bog garden, pond and vegetable plot.

Admission is £2.50, and free for children. Cream teas and Ploughman’s lunches will be served.

Barleythorpe Gardens, at Barleythorpe, Rutland, will also be on display on Sunday from 2-5pm.

Barleythorpe House, Dairy Cottage and The Lodge will all be open and include mixed borders, lime hedges, weeping trees, vegetable plots and water and woodland.

Admission here is £5 and free for children, and homemade teas will be served at Dairy Cottage.
