A Melton couple have organised a special outdoor, socially-distanced Santa’s grotto for neighbouring families.

Graham Wells dressed as Father Christmas and his wife, Kirsty, assumed the role of Mrs Claus as they invited children to sit in a sanitised sleigh on grassland near the couple’s Severn Hill home.

They decided to do it after having the family’s annual trip to a grotto cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

Kirsty, whose sons, Spencer and Fletcher, are aged one and six, respectively, told the Melton Times: “It was so lovely to give back to our community and have some sort of normality for the children.

“Each parent arranged to give their presents to Santa and for Santa to hand them out.

“It was priceless to see their faces light up when they saw him.”

Kirsty sanitised the sleigh for each visit and 10 children came along in total.

It has been such a success that the couple plan to don the outfits every year as a Christmas community event for Severn Hill families.
