The beekeeping association is offering free courses to members in March, ran by experienced beekeepers at different sites across Leicestershire.

The courses provide beginners with knowledge of how to handle bees and learn the skills needed to work with them safely and have hives of their own.

Additional intermediate and advanced beekeeping courses are also available for members who wish to take their current level of training further.

To join the Rutland Beekeepers Association membership costs £35 for adults and £22.50 for under 18s. There’s also an initial £10 joining fee.

Those who sign up will be mentored, receive a regular newsletter, be invited to seven winter meetings with guest speakers, competitions and refreshments, be entitled to a discount on equipment purchases and full third-party and product liability insurance.
