Few new Covid cases in Melton but countywide rise is ‘concerning’
There were just 11 new cases across Melton in the fortnight to September 26 compared to 12 in the two weeks to September 19.
These figures are significantly below those recorded in the other districts of the county, particularly neighbouring Charnwood which has seen new infections rise from 142 to 168 in the last fortnightly counts.

Postive test results across the whole of Leicestershire have jumped from 260 to 555 in the last two fortnightly counts to give a current infection rate of 43.4 infections per 100,000 of the population - Melton’s rate is 11.7 in comparison.
Leicestershire County Council’s director of public health, Mike Sandys said today (Wednesday): “Because of the large jump in cases nationally, none of our areas of the county feature in the top 30 areas of concern across the UK, but our rates are still concerning.
“The latest figures, however, do show that we are putting a bit more distance between the Leicestershire weekly incidence rate of Covid-19 cases and the picture nationally.
“The message remains that it’s up to us all to fight to restrict this virus – to get tested if you have symptoms, stick to the rules around social distancing, wear a face covering and follow hand-washing routines.”
