Major sheep event returns to Melton

A major sheep event is returning to Melton Cattle Market on Friday (February 5).

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is holding its third biennial Eastern Region Winter Fair, which is set to include a wider range of trade stands that will have products on show such as feeders, tags, handling equipment, software, feed, fencing, animal health products and much more.

There will also be competitions, presentations, working demonstrations and seminars.

The seminar programme will be a highlight of the day, with a range of practical and informative talks from top speakers in the industry.

Enthusiastic young shepherds (aged 21 and under) will be showing their skills in the Young Shepherds’ Competition, with a special prize for the highest placed competitor. The competition will test entrants ability on belly clipping, ATV handling and sheep management, as well as posing a questionnaire on flock management and health issues.

Market manager Hugh Brown said: “The market is delighted to be hosting this important event for the sheep industry. We hope farmers will take advantage of the activities on offer and come and visit us.”

The event will run from 10am to4pm. Entrance will be free for NSA members, non-members will be charged £5.
