Owner Ben Jackson was initially told snooker clubs couldn’t open with other parts of the hospitality and leisure sectors on July 4.

But on July 6 the government confirmed that they could.

“One day we were told we couldn’t open then the next we were told we could,” Ben explained.

“We’d had a lot of enquires so I wanted to open as soon as possible but, of course, had to get safety measures in place first. “

“We were fully booked on our first day on Saturday. Players were very happy to get back to potting balls again.”

At the moment only the five snooker tables on the second floor are available by booking in advance and players are asked to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

The club has been undergoing refurbishment work which is still going on so the pool tables and dart boards are not in use at the moment.

“The first floor has been transformed. We’re very excited about the work we are doing which should be finished in the next few weeks,” Ben continued.

Along with the new look the club is changing its name to Jackson’s.

Ben said: “It is the start of a new era for the club which has been in the town centre for decades.”

“We’re living in uncertain times and the last few months have been difficult. I just hope that small businesses like ours can come through it.”
