Old Dalby author Jill pens fourth book to raise funds for village good causes

A keen author with more than 20 years experience has recently published her fourth book entitled '˜The Village Awakes.'

Jill Bernhardi, of Old Dalby, has written an informative biograpghy which is full of short stories about the villages Jill has lived in in England, Scotland, Spain and Australia.

Tales of Old Dalby residents, past and present feature as well as accounts of village churches, children, shops, schools, vicars and vetrans.

Jill said: “There are concise biographies like that of my old school friend Pearl who escaped from the Channel Islands just before the German invasion and there’s Bob who, as a 17-year-old marched into a recruiting centre to volunteer for the RAF in 1941.

“The book also incudes delightful illustrations by designer and illustrator Anna Stasinska of the Old Brickyard Tea Garden in Scalford.”

The book has been sponsored so that every penny of its sale price, £8.50, goes to benefit village good causes. It can be purchased from the Melton Building Society in Nottingham Street or from the Old Brickyard Tea Garden in Scalford.
