Melton hand-crafted products to feature in Patron's Lunch hamper at The Queen's 90th birthday street party

Melton-based food producer Samworth Brothers will be helping to celebrate The Queen's official 90th birthday next month by providing two quintessentially English products to feature in the official M&S Patron's Lunch Hamper.

Two of its companies, Walker & Son and Blueberry Foods, which are both M&S suppliers, are providing products to feature in 10,000 hampers distributed to 600 charities and organisations attending The Patron’s Lunch in London.

The June 12 event will see The Mall transformed into its largest ever street party with 10,000 people seated for a hamper style lunch where guests will each receive their own bespoke hamper provided by M&S, created especially for the picnic.

Guests will enjoy Walker & Son’s mini piccalilli pork pies, made using 100 per cent British pork encased in a hot water crust pastry and hand finished with a tangy piccalilli and pastry crown.

They’ll also be tucking into Blueberry Foods’ butterfly fairy cakes which will include a light vanilla sponge cake topped with delicious strawberry frosting and a lemon cake topped with lemon frosting, both finished with delicate butterfly wings.

Samworth Brothers group chief executive Alex Knight said: “We’re delighted two of our producers are supplying hand-crafted products that will feature in the hamper.

“The purpose of it is to showcase the very best of British food and our tasty mini piccalilli pork pies and delicious butterfly fairy cakes are a great example that I’m sure the picnic guests will love.”

Sandra Ziles, head of M&S product development, added: “We’ve worked closely with our producers and suppliers to ensure we’ve collated a very special menu .

“We’re delighted Blueberry Foods and Walker & Son are providing the hamper with two iconic British products, and we’re looking forward to seeing guests enjoy them as part of their picnic.”

Customers will be able to buy the butterfly cakes and piccalilli pork pies in-store from the end of this month. They’re part of a bespoke Patron’s Lunch picnic range.

Other products in The Patron’s Lunch Hamper will include a Scottish smoked salmon mousse, Pembrokeshire chicken salad and British Windsor apple juice.
