Bride Ruth drives husband Peter to their wedding reception in parents' tractor

After Ruth Harvey and Peter Finn tied the knot at Eastwell Church they made the journey to their reception at the Manners Arms in Knipton - with Ruth behind the wheel of her parents’ JCB Fastrac tractor.

Ruth’s parents, John and Jean, are farmers in Harby. Ruth, who used to work as a farmer full-time, still lives on the farm and helps out at harvest.

Ruth wanted to acknowledge her family’s strong farming connection as part of her big day. She had wanted to drive her father’s old Trantor tractor but as he hadn’t finished restoring it she opted for the JCB Fastrac tractor instead.

She said: “We had a really special day. Everyone was really shocked and surprised to see the tractor at the church. Peter was surprised and delighted that I’d be driving us to our reception in it.

“It took about 10 to 15 minutes to get there and we passed two other tractors en route which had to go onto the verge.”

Ruth wore a 50s style calf-length ivory dress for her wedding, carrying a hand-tied bouquet of gold roses.

She works for the company BASF, giving advice on crop protection products, and was educated at Harby Primary School, Belvoir High School, King Edward VII School in Melton and Melton College.

Her husband, Peter, works as an electrical engineer for Preci-Spark in Loughborough. The son of Tom and Kathy Finn, Peter went to St Francis Catholic Primary School in Melton and De Lisle College in Loughborough.

Ruth and Peter, who were joined at their reception by 28 guests, enjoyed a couple of days honeymooning in Wells, Norfolk, and are also planning to go somewhere after harvest.

The couple will live at New Farm, Harby.
