La La Land (12A) Today, Friday and Tuesday at 8.15pm.

Sing (U) Buster Moon (McConaughey), a tricksy koala bear impresario, is faced with losing his once-grand, debt-ridden theatre. Together with his loyal accomplice Eddie (John C. Reilly), he dreams up a talent contest which could save it, and numerous whacky animal performers duly arrive to strut their stuff. The result is a wildly funny, beautifully realised animation with numerous witty subplots and great, great music. Friday at 3.30pm, Saturday at 12.30pm and 3pm, Sunday at 2.30pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 1pm and 3.30pm and Thursday at 2pm and 4.30pm.

Jackie (15) Blessed with stunning reviews from the 2016 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, Jackie is an intimate and quietly harrowing study of the week following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, as seen through the eyes of his widow. Natalie Portman delivers a performance of poise and power as Jacqueline Kennedy, fighting to hold onto her dignity amid the horror of losing her husband and the subsequent turmoil at the White House. Seamlessly making his English-language debut, director Larraín (No) burrows deep into Jackie’s psyche, showing a woman teetering on the brink. The supporting cast is highly impressive, including Peter Sarsgaard as Bobby Kennedy, Greta Gerwig as loyal aide Nancy Tuckerman, and John Hurt as the priest in whom Jackie confides. Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 5.30pm, Sunday and Wednesday at 8.15pm and Monday and Tuesday at 6pm.

Silence (15) Saturday at 7.45pm and Sunday at 5pm.

Nocturnal Animals (15) Gallery owner Susan (Adams) unexpectedly receives a manuscript from her novelist ex-husband (Gyllenhaal). As she reads it, the novel becomes a film within a film about a family road trip that turns violent. The denouement of writer-director Tom Ford’s complex and riveting follow-up to A Single Man has considerable shock value as the motives of all concerned are called into question. Adams, Gyllenhaal and Michael Shannon all deliver career-best performances. Monday ay 8.15pm.

Mum’s List (12A) A dying mother’s life lessons to the husband and sons she left behind. Based on the best-selling novel by St John (Singe) Greene, the film is the story of Singe and Kate, a couple from North Somerset, whose lives were turned upside down when Kate was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer. Over her last few days, she created her list: writing her thoughts and memories down, to help the man she loved create the best life possible for their two sons, after she was gone. Wednesday at 6pm.

NT Live: St Joan Thursday at 7pm.
