Hickling will burst into life this weekend as it gears up for its popular annual scarecrow festival.

The village will be filled with weird and wonderful scarecrows dressed for this year’s theme of Horrible Histories.

Activities held across Saturday and Sunday include a guess-the-scarecrow competition, children’s entertainment, pig roast, craft fair, market stalls and balloon races.

There’ll also be the chance to try bell ringing at St Luke’s Church.

Proceeds go to Stathern-based Dove Cottage day hospice, Rainbows Hospice and village groups. The fun starts at 10.30am with free admission for children and £2 per adult. To book a market stall pitch call Margaret Woolley on (01664) 822319.
