A pub in South Croxton which regularly serves up squirrel dishes is to appear on Channel 4’s Friday Night Feast programme.
Adam and Debbie Miles, who run The Golden Fleece, will appear on an episode, starring TV chef Jamie Oliver and fellow presenter Jimmy Doherty, which airs next Friday (February 6) at 8pm.
The series raises the issue of food waste and food that doesn’t conform to what the supermarkets want.
The pub was chosen to appear on the show due to regularly serving squirrel on its menu.
Adam said: “Back in September we were contacted by Jamie Oliver’s Fresh One TV production team asking us if they could use our restaurant as the venue for an episode of the show. Our head chef Jack Morley and two other chefs from London restaurants created the ultimate squirrel dishes.
“The dishes produced were Essex-fried squirrel, squirrel raggu, tandoori squirrel and an amazing squirrel, wild mushroom and BBQ sauce enchiladas.”
Adam added: “It was an amazing experience to see how the show is put together first-hand and it was a great occasion meeting Jamie and Jimmy. Both said we had a ‘nice gaff’ and that they liked the food we serve. We have invested in a tandoori oven to reproduce some of the dishes produced on the show.”
