Anyone who bought a ticket for the latest concert, which was scheduled for last night (Sunday) will be refunded, the Asfordby Road theatre has confirmed.

A statement from the theatre reads: “He (Gareth) has had a reoccurrence of the flu which caused his vocal issues previously.

“Please accept our sincere apologies as a venue. This is unfortunately a matter out of our control and we do not ever wish to disappoint our customers.

“At this point we are going to refund all customers due to the inconvenience caused and will then hold your information should there be a rescheduled date.”

Mr Gates, who famously was runner-up in the first series of ITV singing contest Pop Idol in 2002, was due to appear at Melton in early September.

He explained on that occasion that his voice was not up to performing the acoustic set he had planned.

Melton Theatre is hoping to reschedule the gig again at a later date.
