Popular television gardening expert Monty Don is the latest well-known face confirmed to appear at Melton Theatre.

Tickets went on sale last week for Down To Earth – An Evening With Monty Don, which comes to the Asfordby Road venue on Tuesday, October 27 (7.30pm).

The renowned gardening writer and BBC television presenter will talk about his life and travels visiting gardens all over the world.

Hear what really happens behind the scenes when filming, how he made his own organic garden from a bare field, and how understanding and working with nature enriches and empowers us all.

Monty’s TV credits include Gardeners’ World, The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Big Dreams, Small Spaces, Real Gardens, Lost Gardens, Fork to Fork, Growing Out of Trouble, Around The World In 80 Gardens, My Dream Farm and Mastercrafts. He also presents Shared Planet on BBC Radio 4.

* This weekend the theatre hosts a spectacular production of song and dance as the Starlets School of Performing Arts perform Dancing Through the Decades.

This fun-packed, high-energy show celebrates music from the 1920s to the present day, including smash hit numbers recently performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London.

The show takes place on Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (2pm), and tickets cost £10 adults and £8.50 children from (01664) 851111.

* The theatre changes tack next Tuesday with an evening dedicated to the amazing life and times of motorcycle racer Mike Hailwood, hosted by his son David.

His famous Honda 500 RC181 will be on display among a host of personal memorabilia. Curtain-up at 7.30pm.
