The sun will hopefully have its hat on next week as the fun of the seaside is coming to the town centre on Wednesday.

The popular annual Melton by the Sea event is being held once again with a wide range of activities planned from August 19 to 22.

More than eight tonnes of sand will be used to create the seaside scene in the town’s Market Place for the four days and to give punters a complete seaside experience, there will be pony rides, Punch and Judy shows, circus workshops, buckets and spades, traditional fairground rides and sandcastle competitions with some amazing prizes.

Organisers hope to draw thousands of people to the town with lots of free family entertainment, including street entertainers, face painting, balloon modelling, flag making and sand castle competitions.

There will also be a Seaside Town Trail for the younger children with interesting facts about the British seaside to be learned, all in exchange for a free goodie bag.

The events are being organised by Melton Council and the Melton BID Company with additional support from Melton Promotions and the Melton Mowbray Town Estate.

All the action takes place from 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday.
