A gritty adaptation of a Puccini opera is the subject of the latest production by Melton Musical Theatre Company which starts next week.

The Company begins a four-night run of Rent at Melton Theatre on Wednesday with performances at 7.30pm.

Rent is an award-winning musical set in New York City and tells the story of a group of bohemians who live in the same apartment block and their struggles to pay the rent.

They are a diverse group with various problems which, of course, are portrayed in the powerful musical score.

Although a rock musical, the show is based on the opera La Boheme.

The story contains adult themes and hard-hitting issues which may not be suitable for children including Aids and drugs, but its main focus is the importance of community.

Tickets cost £15, and £12 concessions, and are available from the box office on (01664) 851111 or www.meltontheatre.co.uk

This is the first of two annual productions performed by the MMTC, and comes off the back of a successful run of Oh! What a Lovely War last October.
