The Melton Tourism Blueprint 2015-2018 has been developed by Melton Promotions, in partnership with other organisations including the Melton Business Improvement District (BID) and Leicester Shire Promotions.

Tourism and food and drink businesses in the borough are now being urged to fill in a ‘Rural Capital of Food survey’ so that new campaigns and initiatives can be developed to enhance Melton’s visitor offer.

Suggestions include encouraging pop-up restaurants to make use of empty retail units - encouraging high-end street food - and providing better facilities for demonstrating and allowing hands-on visitor participation in the making of Melton Mowbray Pork Pies and production of Stilton Cheese.

Other ideas include providing an eating out/entertainment guide specifically to attract visitors to the town centre in the evening, a food and drink experience leaflet for the borough, cookery master classes, social media initiatives and improving visitor literature and online promotional resources.

Melton town centre manager and tourism development manager Lisa Brown said: “The results from the survey will not only enable Melton Promotions to develop new campaigns and initiatives, but also develop a comprehensive network for promoting the town.

“So the more completed surveys we receive, the more we can promote businesses and spread the word about what’s great about Melton.”

Melton Promotions has also been working to develop a co-ordinated social media strategy to maximise the promotion of the town and borough. This has resulted in a dedicated VisitMelton Facebook page, where businesses can share their news and publicise promotions and events (https://www.facebook.com/visitmelton).

There’s also a Twitter account (https://twitter.com/visitmelton), a dedicated Melton website (www.goleicestershire.com/melton-mowbray) and a local tourism site just for Melton (www.melton.gov.uk/tourism). By completing the survey businesses can ensure they’re correctly promoted for free on the local tourism site.

Businesses can complete the survey online at http://www.melton.gov.uk/foodanddrinksurvey or paper copies can be requested by emailing Lisa at lbrown@melton.gov.uk or calling her on (01664) 502335.
