Clubs and families decorated an amazing 26 trees for Somerby’s Christmas tree festival.

Trees were displayed around the village’s All Saints Parish Church by groups including Oakham YFC, Somerby’s Singers and the local camera club.

Wonderful creations such as an Angel over the font, made from dressmakers dummy with a spruce skirt and wings, and the original “Crisp-mouse-tea” from the Howe family were enjoyed by visitors.

The church hosted a carol concert, mulled wine and mince pie evening and two open afternoons so everyone had the opportunity to see the trees and vote for their favourite ones using pennies. The winning tree was the original “Crisp-mouse-tea.”

Organiser Jane Barnes said: “Together with the concert, all the funds raised will go to the Church Roof appeal.

“Nearly £300 was raised through donations, contributions, voting with pennies and refreshments.

“Thanks goes to all the local ladies who decorated the windowsills, Jo Winterton and the children with their card tree and the tiny tots from Rosie Edwards childminding group.”
