Talented young singers from Melton's St Francis RC Primary School set to perform at district final of Rotary Young Musician Competition

Talented youngsters from Melton's St Francis RC Primary School will be performing at the District 1070 final of the Rotary Young Musician competition taking place tomorrow (Sunday, March 20) at Leicester Grammar School.

They earned their place in the final after singing their hearts out and being named among the winners at the northern semi-final of the competition recently held at Melton’s John Ferneley College.

Performers ranged in age from primary schools through to secondary schools and sixth form colleges. A wide range of music was played and sung during the day and all semi-finalists were given supportive, constructive and encouraging criticism by Robert Brown, the experienced adjudicator.

The co-ordination of the music side of the event was done by Rotarians Moira Bartlett and Sheila Aston, while members of the joint youth committee of the Rotary Clubs of Melton Mowbray Belvoir and Melton organised the smooth running of the day’s event.

The winners of the northern semi-final were:

Juniors: Jacob Inchley – junior solo instrumental (piano); Arantxa Middleton – junior solo vocal; St Francis RC Primary School – junior choir

Intermediates: Darci Benoit – intermediate solo instrumental (piano); Sophie Stevenson – intermediate solo vocal

Seniors: Wreake Valley – senior instrumental ensemble; Sam Dye – senior solo instrumental (trombone); Emily Newlyn – senior solo vocal
