Melton Mowbray Young Farmers club prepare for annual county rally

Melton Mowbray Young Farmers are gearing up for one their main summer events, when members attend the Leicestershire and Rutland Federation of Young Farmers Club's County Rally.

The 70th County Rally which is sponsored by Melton Mowbray Market will see members from across the county flock to Claires Barn Farm, at Twycross, to participate in a range of over 80 activities and competitions.

Competitions on Saturday, May 14 will range from a decorated waistcoat, suitable to wear to a 70th anniversary dinner, to a homemade anniversary gift. The event also includes crafts, photography, cookery, and floral art as well as stock judging, tractor handling and tug of war.

In 2015 the Melton club won most improved and this year, they hope to continue that improvement as their membership numbers grown and recruitment rises.

Recently, Melton Mowbray Young Farmers also raised £1,100 for The Injured Jockey Fund by holding a raffle with a prize to win a shares in a five-year-old chesnut gelding racehorse.

The club are always on the lookout for new members. They meet weekly on a Tuesday evening. Anyone who is aged between 12-26 is invited to attend.
