It's a piece of cake! Support Macmillan by hosting your own Coffee Morning event

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will be back next month and once again, the town is expected to play a big part.

The event is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event to help people facing cancer. Every year, officials ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings in September.

Janet Gilchrist, Melton Mowbray Macmillan Cancer Support committee member said: “Last year alone we raised £25 million and this year we’re aiming to raise even more.

“We’d like friends and family to hold a coffee morning on Friday, September 30, where donations on the day are made to Macmillan.”

Locally the Macmillan committee is helping to organise these events.

“It’d be great if businesses could get involved too as they usuallly have a large number of people on site,” said Janet.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea. Guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process.

It was so effective it was roled out nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan.
