Fun for families at Old Dalby Day

The 33rd Old Dalby Day is on Bank Holiday Monday (August 29) and starts from 10.45am with an opening procession followed by the popular Hill Run from 11am.

A packed programme of events and entertainment will take place in the main arena on the village green.

Among the highlights will be a kids fancy dress. Melton Stagecoach and a performance from the Belvoir Big Band.

Other performances to look out for include steel drum band Octavius, Elvis and circus artiste Brett Sirrell.

As well as the main arena there will be other attractions at the school site including a classic car display, morris dancing, horticultural and produce show and smooth acoustic guitar playing from Adrian Kerr.

The annual dog show has been organised by Lynne Marshall, Melton Times columnist and Julie Jackson Corney from Doggy and Gabonna. It will have five classes including most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, best puppy, best biscuit catcher and the big sit. Registration is at 1.20pm with classes starting from 2.50pm.

Village resident and PR link for the event Jim Patman said: “Old Dalby Day is the lifeblood for groups and clubs within the village and an event that everyone looks forward to.

“My son once said to me that it’s second only to Christmas Day.”

Old Dalby Day began in 1984 as a way of raising money to purchase the old school as the village hall, and once that was completed, the event continued to run to benefit the whole parish.

The action-packed event is different to other village fetes because individual stall-holders retain the money they raise for their own charities and causes.

It will be £4 per car for parking and regardless of the weather the day will go ahead.
